TheView is a powerful state-of-the-art graphical user interface that
will significantly increase productivity accessing a NonStop
Server. The interface was designed to look and work like Microsoft
Windows ® and Apple's MacOS ®.
TheView has a comprehensive offering of software tools to view and
manage files, processes, Guardian subsystems, a Guardian program
execution window and a powerful GUI editor.
TheView's customizable interface favors hot key users, toolbar icon users, small laptop displays up
to dual and quad monitor configurations. All tool windows have
toolbars that can be hidden, detached, individual icons displayed or
hidden or create new toolbars. Icons are available in three sizes:
16 x 16, 24 x 24 and 32 x 32. Workspace skins have been implemented
allowing each user to define a totally different look and feel of
the user interface. This is the most advanced visual interface
available today!
TheView has implemented
Workspaces which allow open tool windows to be organized by software
projects, support tickets, or by Guardian UserIds. Tool windows are
opened in the currently active workspace. Selecting a different
workspace will 'hide' the current tool windows and then 'show'
previously opened tool windows in the selected workspace. For users
that have multiple UserIds, Guardian UserId Workspaces creates a
workspace for each Guardian UserId configured.

Key Benefits
- A
common interface for: system managers, programmers, analysts,
database administrators, managers and end users. Configure for
each UserId or UserId Groups which tools
and server resources that can be viewed and managed.
- Users are no longer restricted to viewing
system resources in a 24 line by 80 character wide window. Imagine viewing
a spoolfile or edit file in a 132 character wide unlimited scrollable
window. Even the program execution window allows up to 256 characters
per line. Using a 17" monitor, TheView will more than double
the amount of information that can be viewed at one time.
-
TheView integrates the PC, Guardian, and OSS
operating and file systems providing one single powerful interface. For example, print edit or spoolfiles on a local PC
printer, Email the contents of many windows, download spoolfiles
directly to Microsoft Word or Excel, and save edit files to the
Guardian File System (edit, unstructured, or C Data), OSS text file,
or PC txt files.
-
New users to the NonStop server
will 'come up to speed' in days instead of weeks. Experienced
users will become much more productive using the advanced features
of TheView.

a 'side by side' or 'all in one' viewing option. Compare edit files
residing in the PC, Guardian, or OSS file systems. Easily view the changes
per line. Collapse the view so that only modified lines are
displayed (the number of non-modified lines displayed before or
after a modified line can be configured). Copy results to Excel.
Convert Number:
Convert any base
to decimal, octal, hex, binary, and ASCII values, converts timestamps, TransIds, TCP/IP addresses
and PDates.
File Tool: A powerful tool allowing
point and click access to files located on a local PC, PC network
disk and NonStop Guardian and OSS file system.
- Double-click
support for Guardian file system:
edit, unstructured ASCII, entry sequenced, key sequenced,
relative, archived spoolfiles, C-Data, and program
files.
- Double-click support for OSS text files.
- Drag and drop Disks (SUPER.SUPER
only), Subvols, OSS directories and files across servers.
- Easily show the number of
files in a subvol and the size in mega bytes.
- Create a File Tool desktop
icon saving the displayed directory.
Find File Tool:
Locates files based on a wildcard file name and file attributes.
Edit files can be opened by double-clicking a specific file entry.
Search the contents of edit, key sequenced, entry sequenced,
relative and archived spoolfiles. Copy the results to Excel.
Create a Find File Tool desktop icon saving the search results.
FTP Tool:
Drag and drop one or multiple files between PC and NonStop, UNIX,
DOS and Linux servers. The
connection and logon are automatically performed. Enscribe
structured and large files are supported.
Logical View:
A directory of files that comprise a software
project can be displayed in a Logical View window. First a
directory is created with directory items for specific categories
of file types (e.g. Source, Listings, Programs, Documentation).
Files are then added under the appropriate directory item.
Double-click is supported to retrieve edit and archived spoolfiles
and execute programs. Logical View's can be shared by multiple
programmers.
MyProcesses Tool:
Displays only a
users processes. A selected process can easily be stopped, suspended,
activated, or its priority altered.
Network Tool:
Shows the status of all
systems in your network and optionally display a bar chart of the
CPU utilization.
Peruse Tool: Provides viewing, management,
and archiving spoolfiles.
- Multiple spoolfiles (up to 200) can be
retrieved directly to Microsoft Word or Excel, an email window,
editor window, or a Document window. When retrieving a spoolfile, the starting
and ending page number can be specified.
- A print preview window displays spoolfiles
which can be printed on a PC or LAN connected printer (page breaks
are supported).
- The Document window has a powerful search feature through the
use of bookmarks.
- Easily archive one or multiple spoolfiles to disk in 129 or
edit file format.
- Open spoolfiles in the default Document window or an Editor window.
Process Tool:
Display only a user's
processes, all processes in a CPU or server. System processes can
be included or excluded. Easily search for processes by program name,
Guardian UserId, hometerm, or jobid.
Subsystem Mgr Tool:
Displays the status
of hardware and software subsystems.
-
Spooler:
Reports the status of a Spooler subsystem showing the current capacities and limits of the Spooler, Collectors
including which processes have the Collector opened (shows Job Number,
process name, CPU and pin, and program name), Print Processes
and printers.
-
SCF: Display
the status of subsystems managed by SCF. Easily display hardware
and software processes. Selecting a process displays the available
commands as buttons. Press a command button and the result will
be displayed in a scrollable window.
Telnet Tool:
Multiple Telnet windows can be opened providing
access to OSS subsystem. Telnet and 6 other protocols are supported.
Execute a command on multiple servers at one time. Create a Telnet
Tool desktop icon saving configured settings.
Program Execution Window:
Guardian
conversational programs can be executed.
- 256
character wide unlimited scrollable window (note: not all
subsystems support this width).

Desktop: TheView's main window is called
the desktop where all other tool windows are displayed. Icons can be created
for Guardian edit, archived spoolfiles, program files, C Data files,
PC Folders, Subvols, CAIL emulation windows, Telnet Tool, Web URL's and File Tool windows
that have been personalized. Macro execution icons can be created
allowing execution of edit obey files by different subsystems and
edit TACL macros by TACL by simply double-clicking an icon.
Workspaces: Allows
open tool windows to be organized by software projects, support
tickets, or by Guardian UserIds. Tool windows
are opened in the currently active workspace. Selecting a
different workspace will 'hide' the current tool windows and then
'show' the previously opened tool windows in the selected workspace. For
users that have multiple UserIds, Guardian UserId Workspaces
creates a workspace for each Guardian UserId configured.
Performance: TheView is 80% faster
than traditional terminal emulators, which translates to less system
overhead. Valuable system resource usage is also reduced. For instance,
a terminal emulator must use a TACL in order to execute FUP (TACLs
are expensive). Another example is editing a file, TheView decreased
CPU busy time by 75%, required 60% less memory pages, and reduced
disk busy time by 60%. The comparison performed used TEDIT opening
an edit file and paging down 10 pages making one edit line change.
Encryption: TheView implemented
Blowfish encryption enabling 448
bit key length and sixteen rounds of data encryption providing an
extremely secure communication between the client and
server. The only tools in which data is not encrypted are the CAIL
Tool, FTP Tool, and Telnet Tool.
